I was equally amazed at how

I was equally amazed at how well NB tapped into the mindset of someone who runs. I especially loved the way they've been able to make their company name stand for something important: "Everything we do is towards tipping the balance. This is the New Balance." Brilliant copy. This captures the essence of true amateur sports which Nike walked away from. My only regret is how the campaign plays out to personify running as a boyfriend/girlfriend and playfully makes sexual innuendoes. The Love/Hate Anthem ad epitomizes the feelings anyone has when training. There's no need to equate running to a sexual relationship. Running is a chore you accomplish to reach a larger goal. The new ads like "Bench" and "Rain" featuring the spoken tag of "Love running more" seems to walk away from the Anthem ad and take the low road.

In a long lost blog on this

In a long lost blog on this very site, I revealed the fact that I crewed for a friend who ran the Badwater Ultramarathon, even though I only did it "for the fishing." Yet, as someone who doesn't even actually run to the store to pick up a gallon of milk when I need it (I walk), I do recognize the brilliance of this New Balance ad. It's clear even to an "outsider" that a real insight has been tapped into, and it is owned and given meaning very succinctly by tying New Balance's name into the idea. Nice ad.

I make no claims to athletic

I make no claims to athletic prowess, but this ad for Air Jordans captures everything that's great about being a sports fan. I remember watching it, speechless, with a friend during a basketball game. At the end, he suggested this ad should follow the singing of the National Anthem at the end of every professional sporting event. That's branding.
